A Documentary by Red Haircrow
A documentary about the German idealization of Indigenous peoples and the „tradition“ of dressing up and pretending to be Native, which stems from Karl May´s novels about a fictional Apache character named Winnetou.
The film, written and directed by Red Haircrow, who has Chiricahua Apache, Cherokee and African American heritage, explores the roots of racism, colonialism, and cultural appropria-tion in Germany from a rarely considered perspective: the Native American stereotype infamously adored by many Germans.
Manuel Ricardo Garcia (Jicarilla Apache & Coahuiltecan & German), based in Munich with family in Chihuahua Mexico, trans* activist, two spirit & active in LGBTIQA*, Black & POC communities, is interviewed in the film and will be present and open for a talk after the movie.
